Inside the Wonder Studio: Life in Miniature

March 14, 2023 ~ wordancerblog ~ 8 Comments

This month in the Wonder Studio, the 5th graders have been working on a small scale.  No one mandated that they do so.  They all just started making tiny projects.

Object Connections: Janet Wong’s Poetry

March 6, 2023March 5, 2023 ~ wordancerblog ~ 5 Comments

Last week, I had an opportunity to attend a poetry workshop presented by Janet Wong and sponsored by Rutgers University Center for Literacy Development, which is directed by Dr. Lesley Morrow.

What's so fascinating is that children are accepting and agreeable when it comes to working together (mostly)- - far more…

Your story and pictures left me feeling serene and immediately looking for shades of Cloud Dancer white. :)

I so enjoy Janet’s workshops. She came to our school once and I’ve attended library workshops with her. She has the knack/ability to help everyone write poetry. My favorite book of hers is Night Garden. It sounds like you had a fabulous day!

Such a wonderful experience. When we know the background of any writing, it touches the heart immediately. Thank you for sharing.

I’ve seen Janet’s presentations at NCTE. Once I had the guts to ask her if I could write for an anthology. She said they were working on You Just Wait and needed a cinquain. I got in! She is so generous and enthusiastic. I’m glad you shared that experience.
I love your poem. My 2 year old granddaughter has suddenly become afraid of the bath. Her aunt ( my middle child) gave her a plastic dolphin to help.

Joanne, Janet is one of my favorite people. You are so lucky to spend a day as Vanna White with her. I am lucky to have a poem published in her Great Morning anthology. Can you please send me information on Janet’s new workshop? is it virtual? I would be interested in attending. (cvarsalona@gmail.com) Your poem is adorable. That last line is wonderful. Children would love to hear that one.

It was so fun to read about your day with Janet Wong and about her workshops! I love the list you wrote of the objects she brought with her as props. What an eclectic assortment! How fascinating to hear about the stories behind her poems. That adds so much to my appreciation of them. I love your poem, too.
