It isn’t often that I come across a word whose meaning I don’t yet know. This week, while reading my usual assortment of blogs, I came across the word, doxology. It comes from the Greek words – doxa meaning glory and logo meaning word. The English word doxology means a short expression of praise. Two common examples of doxologies are “Glory to God in the highest” and “Praise God, from whom all blessings flow,”
As my husband and I drove south from New Jersey during my winter break, we watched in awe as a sunset gracefully appeared in South Carolina. Witnessing the evening sky renewed my faith. Nothing could make something so intricately beautiful, only God. I watched as His hand moved the clouds and shift them into ethereal shapes and soft colors. I believe this was a reminder from God that there is still hope for the future, that we were made to delight in this natural world for the short time we are here.
As I watched the cloud shapes shift, my mood lifted. I stopped being so busy and obsessed with what comes next and became still and peaceful, happy to be given this moment. All at once, a poem formed in my head. I wanted to give praise to this fleeting moment. I wanted to give back in some small way a bit of thanks for all the blessings that have been bestowed on me.
