Working in the Wonder Studio: Setting the Stage

January 27, 2026 ~ wordancerblog ~ 7 Comments

This month, it is the 3rd grade’s turn in the Wonder Studio.  I usually have a packed crowd waiting to create, but this group is a little reticent, and I have had only 3 to 6 students come to form.  However, what they lack in volume, they make up for in collaborative creativity.

Yes, this is the best part of my job. I’m a learning specialist, but I made room (literally) for crafting, because children with ADHD excel in working with their hands!

What’s so fascinating is that children are accepting and agreeable when it comes to working together (mostly)- – far more easily than adults!! And YOU inspire that to come out naturally. I want to come to the Wonder Studio and feel the wonder you bring to teaching! I need a triple dose.

I loved reading this observation: “I was just setting the stage for children to create.  They did not need help; they had a very clear idea of what they wanted to create and how they were going to do it,” not only because of the clever diction, but because it so captures the way you are with your “kids.” All hail, “collaborative creativity.” If only this model could be the norm.

I’m a dreamer, Trish. Why can’t it be the norm? There’d definitely be more joy and more insights into how kids learns. Thanks for your kind words.
