Now, while I may not work with all of them directly, I do make sure I know their names and find out a little bit about each one of them. This means that my brain is on overdrive in September, and I have to remind myself to slow down and really connect – connect with faculty, students, and their parents. This means meeting with faculty and parents to discuss the best support paths for many students. This also means connecting with students. I spend the first few weeks of school inviting myself into classrooms, reacquainting myself with our students and getting to know new ones.

Igniting Curiosity: How Skateboarding Sparks Learning
All this skateboarding got me to thinking about how children learn. Increasingly, learning seems to have become more and more passive. Teachers and technology dole out information and kids are expected to take the information and hold on to it, but I’m not sure the kids understand the importance of the information and how to take it farther. And there is so much information, it’s hard to determine what to hold on to, what is true, and what is not important.  I’m wondering in my work with children this year, how I can spark that skatepark enthusiasm.
Writing Craft: Wrist Pillows
It was a joyous afternoon. The girls practiced making underhand curves with their new pencils, while small groups came to the crafting table to fill bags with rice, wrap the bags with fabric, and tie the ends with colorful ribbons.Â
